Zodiac monsters are not what you would expect to represent the 12 Horoscope signs, but then you've probably never met illustrator Damon Hellandbrand who's dark mind has re-imagined the different astrological signs into creepy-looking Zodiac monsters that wouldn't look out of place in a Guillermo del Toro movie or on the pages of a HP Lovecraft novel. His Zodiac signs don't exactly inspire any great insights into our day to day living.
Just in case you are a bit rusty on your Zodiac signs and their astrological meanings (or you don't believe in such nonsense) website www.astrology-zodiac-signs.com notes "There are 12 zodiac signs, and each sign has its own strengths and weaknesses, its own specific traits, desires and attitude towards life and people. By analyzing the projection of the position of planets, and the Sun and the Moon on the Ecliptic at the moment of birth. Astrology can give us a glimpse of a person's basic characteristics, preferences, flaws and fears."
The website goes on to say "There are four elements of nature relevant for our deeper understanding of Astrology and many other things in life: Earth, Water, Fire and Air. They all have a long history, recognized way before our time. Used by the alchemist to find answers, or by common people trying to understand Mother Nature, these four have been the pillar of everything we are surrounded by and everything we carry within."
So there you have it, consider yourself an expert on all things horoscope and Zodiac related.
What Inspires Damon Hellandbrand?
U.S based Damon says of his work, "Today I'm fascinated and inspired by all forms of art, from the great masters of the past to the current masters of the present, as well as the amazing works of mother nature!"
Taking inspiration from artists like Ralph McQuarrie, Boris Vallejo, and Frank Frazetta Hellandbrand's process involves sketching out an idea, then once he's settled on that he uses pencil, watercolor, acrylics, charcoal or anything he's interested in to further flesh it out.
