Google's Asking Star Wars Fans To Choose Whether They're On The Light Side Or The Dark Side

There's been an awakening. In your browser. And your Gmail. And YouTube. Basically anywhere Google-related because the search engine/tech superpower has teamed up with Star Wars so you can theme your Google experience.

First it asks you to choose whether you're Light Side or Dark Side. Then, depending on whether you've sided with the Siths or the Jedis it will change how various platforms, from Gmail, YouTube, and Google Maps will look.

It will do things like fill your browser tabs with scenes from the new movie, turn the yellow Google Maps Pegman into a Stormtrooper or Resistance Pilot, and use a TIE fighter or an X-wing to take you to your destination in Gmaps.

In YouTube loading bars become red or blue-colored lightsabers and Google Calendar highlights movie milestones from the franchise.

And Google Translate will translate words into Aurebesh, the writing system for Galactic Basic the most common language in the Star Wars universe.

Plus, if you search "a long time ago in a galaxy far far away" in Google search this happens.

Writing on Google's blog Clay Bavor, VP of Product Management, says:

It's a place for fans, by fans, and starting today you can choose the light or the dark side, and then watch your favorite Google apps like Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome and many more transform to reflect your path. And that's just the beginning. We've got more coming between now and opening night—the Millennium Falcon in all its (virtual reality) glory included, so stay tuned. And we've hidden a few easter eggs, too. So awaken the Force within, and be on the lookout for things from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…

So what's it going to be, Light Side or Dark?
