The Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo Is The Italian Supercar Maker's Latest GT Racer

The Italian supercar company has revealed their latest GT racing car, the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo. The Italian racer, which will take to the circuits in 2018, is an evolution of the Huracan LP 620-2 Super Trofeo which made its debut three years ago. This new model will be eligible for global GT racing.

Like its predecessor, the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo still has 620hp, a V10 5.2cc engine, and an XTrac sequential gearbox, but ups the ante with aerodynamics by the inclusion of an air scoop. As, while downforce is the same, drag is reduced 8%, which means it will give a better overall performance. "This exclusive feature for a one-make racing series car improves all the aerodynamic of the car removing the double air intakes on the road car versions of the Huracán fleet." note the company.

Along with this the Super Trofeo Evo also has a central shark fin which is inspired by racer prototypes which improves the car's handling at high speeds around corners. All these upgrades mean the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo takes 1.5 seconds off the lap time set by the former Super Trofeo at the Monza circuit.

The Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo made its debut at an exclusive event in Sant’Agata Bolognese in Bologna, Italy earlier this month. In a press release about the car Lamborghini said:

The new Huracan Super Trofeo Evo raises the already high standards of the previous model with entirely redesigned aerodynamics, new devices to improve safety, and several improvements to its mechanics and electronics. Their aim was to maintain the same high downforce of the previous model, while achieving higher overall aerodynamic efficiency and so less resistance to forward travel with improved stability.

The body kit of the new Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo is made from carbon fiber, with all its parts completely redesigned. Only the flat floor, the front splitter, and the rear diffuser have not been altered, reflecting the intention to maintain the same downforce and avoid any increase in running costs for customer teams.

While Maurizio Reggiani, Chief Technology Officer of Automobili Lamborghini said, “Sophisticated aerodynamics and ultralight materials: the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo has been developed based on the two main pillars of the brand's technology. Like the road version of the Huracan Performante where use of composites and the drive to achieve maximum aerodynamic efficiency are the basis of levels of uncompromised performance, the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo also focuses on these elements, continuing as a category benchmark.” The list price of the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo is $295,000 (plus tax).
