Mysterious Creature Discovered Caked In Mud Was Finally Identified After A Good Clean

Sometimes you get yourself into very tricky situations and need help to get out, the same goes for animals. It could have ended very differently for this unfortunate four-month-old fox, but thankfully he was discovered before it was too late. Because this poor fox was found completely coated in mud having fallen down a deep hole near a construction site in London.

So thick was the dried mud that coated him when the builders pulled him from the hole that they didn't even know what animal it was. He was then sent off to the South Essex Wildlife Hospital to be cleaned up and brought back to a more recognizable state.

While there he was named Muddsey, given some food, water, and scrubbed clean by the staff who acknowledged how lucky it was that he was found.

"It would certainly have had a pretty awful death if it hadn't been found, it was very cold and in shock but is fine now." Su Schwar, who runs the animal hospital, told The Mail Online. "We felt very sorry for him because he was completely caked and was absolutely petrified. The builders were doing some ground work on the site and there were a couple of holes left open. None of us knew how long he had been down that hole—it could have been all weekend."

After being nurtured back to his old self Muddsey is now ready to head back into the wild. Let's hope he avoids building sites from now on.
