Obama Finally Joins Twitter And Is Met With Typical Internet Response—Jokes And Trolling #POTUS

Although he's well into his second term as President of the United States of America, Obama has finally joined twitter. Yesterday saw the launch of @POTUS with a bio that read "Dad, husband, and 44th President of the United States. Tweets may be archived."

Better late than never, right? There's always been a @BarackObama account but it was run by staff from Organizing for Actionm with tweets that were written by the prez signed with his initials BO.

But this new account is his, and his only.

Of course there will be doubters out there who will raise the question of if it's really him and what device he is Tweeting from? Obama supposedly can’t use a smartphone due to security concerns, so where exactly is he typing these from, surely not from his ancient BlackBerry?

The White House website blog says the following about it:

The @POTUS Twitter account will serve as a new way for President Obama to engage directly with the American people, with tweets coming exclusively from him. President Obama is committed to making his Administration the most open and participatory in history, and @POTUS will give Americans a new venue to engage on the issues that matter most to them.

In one day Obama amassed 1.8 million followers, but along with the followers came the jokers and the trollers who took the opportunity to welcome him, internet-style. Here's his first tweeet.

And here he is tweeting it (can anyone see what kind of phone that is?).

Naturally being POTUS he had some very famous people welcome him to the site including his wife, and Bill Clinton with this epic comment.

Most people, and celebrities, saw it as an opportunity to have some fun though.

And, of course, there were trolls. Plenty of trolls.
