Extremely Lucky Escape Of The Day: US Marine Survives Headshot From Taliban Sniper

With Veteran's Day having recently passed, this is the perfect reminder of the dangers soldiers face when out on the battlefield—and why it's important to have a special day to honor them.

This video was uploaded by Afghanistan vet Sam Arnold and it's an insane piece of footage to watch. It shows a US marine surviving a headshot thanks to his kevlar helmet.

The footages shows a group of three marines coming out from a building, when suddenly the whipping movement and sound of a bullet impacting one of the soldier's helmets is heard.

They all quickly run back, knowing instantly it's a sniper. All three are stunned by the incident, not least the guy who it happened to, and the relief that can be seen on his face is completely palpable.

It doesn't really get any closer than that. Arnold uploaded the vid with the following explanation:

A Taliban sniper managed to get a non-fatal headshot on a Marine's helmet while the Marines were conducting a joint helicopter raid in the Now Zad district, Helmand Province in 2013. The shot occurs right at the :45 mark in the video.
