What is it with people wanting to look like fictional characters from comic books? Do you remember that guy who cut off his nose to look like Red Skull and now there's this guy who nearly lost his arms because he wanted to look like Hulk. Why doesn't anyone want to look like Hawkeye, or Black Widow?
Brazilian Romario Dos Santos is a 25-year-old bodybuilder who started injecting himself with the muscle enhancement Synthol. He soon became addicted to using it to get bigger and bigger biceps, which were a staggering 25 inches at their biggest. The addiction had lots to do with the admiration he was getting, even though his pregnant wife was threatening to leave him.
"Sometimes kids will come up to me and say that I look like the Incredible Hulk and hug me and have their photo taken with me." he says, "I really like that as I modeled my body on the Incredible Hulk."
But, injecting Synthol comes with a whole host of problems. The least of which is it makes you look like a freak. In Santos' body the Synthol was solidifying and turning into rocks. "I remember the doctor told me that they would need to amputate both arms—they said everything in there, all my muscles, were rock. " he remarks.
Fortunately the doctors were able to remove the rocks rather than Santos' arms.
And now he's been clean of the substance for two years.
