A Texas student has earned the nickname "Barbie Jeep Girl" after taking to riding a hot pink Barbie jeep around campus. Tara Monroe who goes to Texas State University had her license suspended after getting arrested for DWI when she was pulled over on her way home from a Waka Flocka concert, and refused a breathalyzer.
She's now become something of a celebrity in the San Marcos campus, with fellow students snapping pictures of her wheeling about in the plastic electric vehicle.
She's called it Charlene, which is the same name as the toddler who she bought it from.
She purchased it on Craigslist for $60 after her dad took away her car and she only had a bike to get around on. “Riding a bike around campus sucks,” she told MySA.com. “Like really sucks.”
She can now drive around instead at speeds of 5 mph. "It goes pretty fast when it’s just me, so I usually make them [her friends] walk behind me like parents taking their kid out to play." she explains.
The 20-year-old industrial engineering junior wants to take the car out on the town for her 21st, coming up in November. Who knows what kind of lawbreaking she'll accomplish.
“This is the best way I could have gotten my fifteen minutes of fame,” she said. “Basically, it was the best decision I’ve made in college, yet.”
