Barney the purple dinosaur and kids TV fav is building up quite the rap profile—none of it is his doing, of course. Instead it's the work of video editor Adam Schleichkorn (aka isthishowyougoviral) who's made it his mission to bring the greatest of 90s hip hop to new audiences via the medium of kids TV by mashing the two together.
Previous examples have included Doug Funnie rapping some Ice Cube, Bert and Ernie doing Warren G, Spongebob singing Three 6 Mafia, and Barney the dino doing his versions of various Biggie Smalls tracks.
It appears for Schleichkorn if the Notorious B.I.G. had a kids' TV equivalent, that embodiment would be Barney.
Watching this new mashup, which sees the purple one rapping Biggie's "Big Poppa," you can see why Schleichkorn keeps going back to this juxtaposition.
Barney does have a certain swagger and sway that, when edited together like this, fits so well with the skills of one of hip hop's greatest rappers.
"This song has been on my list for a long time, and I just feel like Barney as Biggie totally fits." Schleichkorn says on the YouTube page. "Not only is this one of the best rap songs of all time, but it comes from the best rap album of all time, Ready to Die… Cover to cover greatness! In my opinion, most new hip-hop is garbage, and I honestly think it’s Biggie’s fault for setting the bar too damn high."
