Oklahoma 'Pastafarian' Woman Wears Spaghetti Strainer In Driver's License Photo

For those of you who don't spend their time on Know Your Meme looking up obscure internet jokes that become full-blown parody religions, a Pastafarian is a follower of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster—a satirical religion founded in 2005 that opposes creationism and worships a flying deity consisting of pasta and meatballs.

And, accordingly their religious headgear is a spaghetti strainer, which is exactly what Shawna Hammond, who counts herself as a Pastafarian, wore in her driver's license photo. Yep, it sounds ridiculous but Ms Hammond was allowed to wear it because it falls under Oklahoma's rules for religious headwear, which states that people can wear a religious headpiece providing it doesn't cover or produce shadows on their face.

“I asked if I could wear my religious headwear and he said, yes—it just couldn’t have any logos, or any type of writing. I told him it didn’t, and I went out to my car and got my colander. It doesn’t cover my face. I mean, you can still see my face. We have to take off our glasses, so I took off my glasses.” she told KFOR.com.

This follows on from a Canadian man (below) in Vancouver who wanted to wear a spaghetti strainer in his driver's license, but was asked to remove it. However, he says he will fight for his right to wear it because he's had pasta about (sorry) enough of their discrimination, even if everyone else think his religion's a bit fusilli (OK, I'll stop now).
