Listen To The Celeb Prank Call Where Elton John Thought He Was Speaking To Vladimir Putin

Elton John was made pretty damn furious recently, when a phone call he thought he had with Russian President Vladimir Putin about LGBT rights in Russia turned out to be a couple of pranksters. Elton John took the call on Monday evening, thinking he was speaking with Putin and his press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

But after Elton posted about the call to his Instagram, Peskov told the press. "I don’t know who Sir Elton talked with, but I can responsibly say that Vladimir Putin has not spoken to Sir Elton John." Oh.

It soon emerged that pranksters Vladimir Krasnov and Alexei Stolyarov were behind the call, with Stolyarov posing as Putin speaking in Russian and Krasnov pretending to be Peskov, translating.

Audio of the call has now been released, which you can listen to above. As for Elton John, he's now saying he's glad it happened.

Writing on Instagram he said, "Pranks are funny. Homophobia, however is never funny. I love Russia and my offer to talk to President Putin about LGBT rights still stands. I will always stand up for those that are being degraded and discriminated against. If this unfortunate incident has helped push this vital issue back into the spotlight, then I am happy to be pranked on this occasion."
