Thor: Ragnarok Trailer Gets a Hilarious Sweded Edition In This Lo-fi Remake

Get ready for the Ákos Varga's Sweded version of the official Thor: Ragnarok trailer that was released earlier this year after debuting at the San Diego Comic Con. It was the second trailer, after a teaser in April, for the new, third standalone Thor movie that's part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Varga's version of the Ragnarok trailer comes to you via the 'alternative' MCU featuring super cheap costumes and even cheaper visual effects.

From the original Thor: Ragnarok trailer we get a glimpse that the new film, directed by New Zealander Taika Waititi, looks like it's going to be pretty insane. Not only is the color palette quite bold, but the vibe seems very Flash Gordon. And the tone more jovial and comical than a typical MCU movie.

Which is no doubt down to the fact Waititi said much of the movie was improvised. "I would say we improvised probably 80 percent of the film, or ad-libbed and threw in stuff." the director told MTV News. "My style of working is I’ll often be behind the camera, or right next to the camera yelling words at people, like, ‘Say this, say this! Say it this way!’ I’ll straight-up give Anthony Hopkins a line reading. I don’t care." He also said he fostered a "very loose and collaborate mood" on set noting, "I'm trying to bring my tone and sensibility from my other films." But we'll have to wait until the film's released on 3 November to see if it's as good as the Thor: Ragnarok trailer.

The Thor: Ragnarok Trailer Gets Officially Sweeded

Until then we can enjoy this sweded version of the trailer. For those who haven't seen the 2008 Michel Gondry film Be Kind Rewind, or the meme it spawned, sweded basically means making an ultra low budget version of a film or trailer—using cardboard cutouts and toy figures, aluminum foil and marker pen drawn scenes on paper.

And in that great and noble tradition Ákos Varga (on YouTube as lennoxasaki) has created a lo-fi sweded version of the Thor: Ragnarok trailer (it's already had a weird trailer version). And it's very amusing. It uses the actual voices and sound FX from the original trailer, which makes it all the more entertaining.

Because there's just something endlessly enjoyable about seeing a multi-million dollar tentpole Hollywood movie being recreated with household objects and a kindergarten aesthetic. Plus, considering Waititi's comedic background it seems to just fit the vibe of the film too. Admit it, we all really want to see a cardboard Hulk.

In fact this sweded Thor: Ragnarok trailer even got tweeted by Taika Waititi himself. And it doesn't really get a better commendation than that. And make sure you check out the original Thor: Ragnarok trailer if you haven't—for some cave-dwelling reason—seen it yet.
