A Struggling Actor Finds Himself Dubbing Gay Porn In Hilarious Clip From Brit Sitcom 'Toast of London'
If you're a connoisseur of contemporary British comedy then you would have come across the suave talents of comedian and actor Matt Berry. He's probably best known for playing the character of Douglas Reynholm in quite possibly the best TV show ever made (ok, maybe i'm just a bit biased), The IT Crowd.
But he's also appeared in Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, The Mighty Boosh, Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer's absurdist sitcom House of Fools, along with playing the titular character in Toast of London.
The latter sees Berry playing struggling middle-aged actor Steve Toast who has a bloated sense of his own brilliance. Down at heel he takes work where he can. He would rather be treading the boards of the theatre but instead finds himself doing voiceover work. In this particular clip from the show he has to to voiceover work for a porn film—a German gay porn film.
So we get the hilarious awkwardness of him sitting down with an arch theatrical foe and having to do cringeworthy sex sounds with him. Or pronounce the word "underwear" in German. He also has to do some solo kissing noises too which are, well, quite something.
It's all very funny, and added to the humor is the fact that Toast is having to do all this in front of a bunch of hipster media a-holes, one of which is called Clem Fandango.
And what does he get for his troubles? A pair of second hand shoes and his cab fair home.
